For Christmas I was lucky enough to get a brand new grinder to sit beside the Espresso Machine. I read over and over again how important the grind is to a good shot of espresso, and although I couldn’t invest in a powerhouse grinder, I was able to land a Baratza Maestro Plus with a portafilter insert.
The difference has been night and day. Although the finest grind is borderline fine enough for espresso, it seems to be getting the job done. I have been pulling better shots than before with consistency. With 40 grind settings, I will have the ability to dial it in when grinding for different brew methods. And dosing directly into the portafilter is a fantastic thing.
I know it can get even better with a top tier grinder, but for now we have a winner!
